   What does it mean when a bird keeps tapping on the window trying to get in?
   
   This is a wild bird, not a pet. It is brown with a thin beak and the size of a blackbird.

      My mother also has a bird knocking on the door and window! But it is the Indiana state bird! The Red Bird! So Nancy do you have any thoughts on why and also a yard full of crows!???

   WE have a courting pair tapping on our windows every day. One also taps in the car mirror outside. I think they may be trying to connect with the bird reflection they see.

   I had a mocking bird once that after it ate some crumbs I left out, would began waiting fo r me to leave the house. It would be in the strangest places like on the eave of the roof looking down or sometimes on the top step looking in to the house. The most amazing thing that happened though was while going to my car one time it flew off a low hanging branch near the auto and began circling very closely around my head like a hummingbird. There's more to these creatures than many think.

   hate to say it, but I got to go with b4u2 on this one, death related for sure.
   Our family tradition said that if a bird got into the house, there would be a death in the very near future (to someone close to the family, or in the family)*

   For the death thing, I think it has to be a specific black bird like a crow no?
   
   We have the same problem, everyday at 6 o'clock, this tiny little red bird knocks on our window making our dog bark...very nice....I am a vegetarian since i was young and can't remember ever killing an animal but I am very tempted on Sunday mornings...:-)
   
   I honestly think they see some reflection on the window ...not sure.. would love to hear how anybody who has solved this problem WITHOUT harming these little creatures.

   TouTube..has a few videos, showing birds 'tapping nad trying to get into the house'.  Interesting to watch how persistent they can be about tyring to come inside.  I'm not sure if there is a legend or myth behind what they are doing.  It could mean its mating season, and they want food or shelter or protection.  To different people the meanings can vary!

    You must be a good person to have an animal do this.
    I would be feeding it and encouraging it as much as possible.

    It simply sees its reflection in the window and is threatened by it. Is there a nest nearby? This happened to me at work outside my classroom. The bird had a nest in the tree outside the window. The bird was simply protecting its nest and eggs from what it thought was another bird hovering near its home.

    When I lived with my grandmother years ago, we had a bird (a robin, I think) that kept running into our window, off and on all day long, 'thump, thump, thump...' was what we heard. At that time, we had two babies that were due to be born in a week or two. This bird kept this up everyday, off and on, and didn't stop until the day the first baby was born. Then, we never heard it again. But blackbirds are supposed to be a sign of impending doom/bad luck, or death. Buzzards are also a sign of death, in my experience.

    First up, there's no way to identify whether it's the same bird or not. However, let's consider that it's the same bird. So, there must be something it wants to indicate.  I mean a presence or danger. If it's not the same bird, then there must be bird stuck in your house. XD. Or else why would a bird do so?

    Birds flying into windows (house or car) are also supposed to bring news of death. Birds looking in the windows or tapping at windows can mean a death is coming. It can also mean that the bird is simply seeing its reflection in the window and interacting with the bird it sees. it could also be the bird is just trying to pass through but because they can't see glass they tried to pass the window again and again.

    It means to show his/her love  or emotional attrection to some one else...may be his/her fallow bird or things to eat.. or a search of place to hatching eggs

    I hope no one thinks I’m crazy but I am sitting in my back room and birds keep knocking on my door. I opened it the first time and there were like 5 regular looking small birds and one big black one flying away. So I shut the door, figured it was just something else because how can a bird knock on a door yanno? There’s no window at all where they are. There is nothing shiny to entice them to fly towards the door. I’m at a total loss and omg they just knocked again. I open the door the one out of the bunch looks at me then flies away to the roof of the next house with the other birds. I shut the door and a few minutes go by and they knock again. I just don’t get it one bit. They’re not even singing as much as it sounds like they are talking. This has never happened before and it’s even more crazy because on the complete opposite side of the house where no birds are and my car is parked there is bird poop all over my vehicle. Lately just a lot to do with birds. Someone tell me I’m not losing my mind and there’s an actual legitimate reason for this.
